A Washington Post article reveals that lottery sales are higher in African-American zip codes. The report uses Census data to calculate the percent of African-American residents in a given ZIP code. The results show that African-American residents spent nearly double as much on lottery tickets as their white or Latino counterparts in fiscal year 2002. And despite the disparity, there are still plenty of people willing to spend money on lottery tickets.
